RESCUE FOR 4D DATA DOCUMENTATION - Preferences

PREFERENCES

General Preferences :

The Ending Long Operations zone
- Beeps : Informs you at the end of each operation which takes longer than 10 seconds.
- Showing Window (if iconized) : if Rescue For 4D Data is iconized, this forces the display of the Rescue For 4D Data active window at the end of the current processing session.
Show Password Information : When opening a database, this forces the display of a message which points out the type of user and the user's rights.
Remembers Window Positions : Allows you to record the last placement position of your windows.
Force 4D Tools On Modify : Forces the use of 4D Utils when Rescue For 4D Data carries out a modification on a database. Thus, this check box is used to avoid memory lapses. The message displayed is " Rescue For 4D Data Requires You To Use 4D Tools. "
Animated Checking : If the box is checked, the icons are animated during the checking process.
HTML Help Viewer zone: Allows you to indicate the path to the browser which will be used to access the online Help section.

The Default Action zone : allows you to define Doctor's default actions.
- Log Only : no corrections are made
- Manual correction : Manual corrections
- Auto correction : Automatic corrections
The Checking zone
The options in this zone dictate what Doctor must check.
- Index : Checks the indices (checks headers, type of index, whether the record exists in this index, the corresponding index and record number).
- PRA : checks the Primary Record Address coherence.
  - SRA Tables : checks the Secondary Record Address coherence.
  - Delete Records : check the coherence of the trash table.
    - Record Headers : checks the coherence of the record headers.
The Checking Fields zone
The options in this zone make it possible to check the contents of fields:
- Alpha : checks the characters present in Alpha fields.
- Integer : checks Integer fields.
- Long : checks Long Integer fields.
- Real : checks Real fields (Error Not A Number).
- Date : checks Date fields.
- Time : checks Time fields.
- Boolean : checks Boolean fields.
- SubField : checks SubFields.
  - Text : checks Text fields.
  - Picture : checks Image fields.
  - Blob : checks Blob fields.

The Text, Picture, and Blob fields are represented below the SubField type and are indented. This indicates that, if checking the subfields is not required then the Text, Picture, and Blob fields will not be checked, IF the record contains subfields. In fact, it is impossible to check variable length fields (Text, Picture, and Blob) without first reading the subfields of a record.


Alpha Filter

The options in this zone enable you to define the characters used in Rescue for 4D Data: - to delete - > Red barred character - to replace by - > Blue barred character - or to check only (doubtful) - > Green underlined character

The character table presented is that of a Macintosh (the 4D ASCII table is Mac format).

To modify the character filter, click on the button :
To mark a character :
To delete a character Under Windows™ or Virtual PC™
Click on the character which you wish to delete. The character will appear in Red and it will now belong to the 'Characters to Delete' filter.

To replace a character Under Windows™
Using the right button, click on the character which you wish to delete. The character will appear in blue and it will now belong to the 'Characters to Replace' filter. Now select the replacement character in the 'Replace With' zone.

Under Virtual PC™ (Macintosh)

While holding the Control key, click on the character which you wish to remove. The character will appear in blue and it will now belong to the 'Characters to Replace' filter. Now select the replacement character in the 'Replace With' zone.

To check a character (warning) Under Windows™
Using the right button, double-click on the character which you wish to remove. The character will appear in Green and it will now belong to the 'Doubtful Characters' filter. Now select the replacement character in the 'Replace With' zone.

Under Virtual PC™ (Macintosh)

While holding the Control key, double-click on the character which you wish to remove. The character will appear in Green and it will now belong to the 'Doubtful Characters' filter.

To modify the grid view (character or ASCII mode) :

Clicking on the 'ASCII Macintosh' zone will modify the view:

In order to adhere as closely as possible to the inherent structure of 4D (especially to the instructions Go to Record, Record Number, etc.), Rescue For 4D Data begins classification of the records from the number 0. Thus, the first record will be 0 and the hundredth record will be 99 (i.e. 100 - 1). Hence, when 4D declares a problem on a record X, you can easily identify the record in Rescue For 4D Data (i.e. to delete records using Editor) without having to convert...
